Tips to Boost Sales During the Christmas Rush

When you give your customers a great shopping experience, you can make more sales. Shoppers may beRetail Window Displays frenzied during the holiday season, but the more they enjoy shopping in your store, the longer they will stay and the more they’re likely to buy. That’s the way to boost holiday sales during the Christmas rush.

Give your store a warm, welcoming ambiance. Design your store layout so it's easy to find products. Use suggestive selling techniques. And make your signage and displays more informative, so busy sales staff can focus on actually helping customers rather than answering questions like “how much is this?”

Create displays that sell

  • Show your individuality by using colors beyond red and green and Hanukkah blue. Gold, silver and multi-color glitter also say “holiday magic.”
  • Use the “three to five rule” to keep displays focused rather than confusing.
  • Use displays to promote pairings with complimentary items, accessories, etc.
  • Keep your end caps refreshed. Use these premiere locations to promote gift ideas, new merchandise or impulse items and change them more frequently.
  • List product benefits on signage.
  • Clearly indicate all prices.
  • Place smaller, inexpensive items on or next to your cash wrap counter to promote impulse sales.
  • Do in-store product demonstrations to promote key merchandise. No room? Use video displays or free-standing kiosks to show product information or suggest add-on purchases.

Make shopping easy

When their hands get full, customers cannot pick up more merchandise. If you sell bulky items like clothing, be vigilant about relieving shoppers of try-on items so they can continue to gather more. If you sell small items, offer small baskets shoppers can use to collect them.

Harness the power of fragrance – a subtle scent of cinnamon or peppermint puts shoppers in a comfortable holiday mood, or you can offer complimentary hot cider or spiced tea. Appeal to their sense of taste by offering a treat to keep shoppers fueled – some cookies or bite-size tastes of your food products.

Improve Christmas profits with upselling

  • Create an online holiday gift guide to promote your best or most unusual merchandise
  • Create gift packs, baskets, etc. so shoppers don’t have to hunt separately for multiple items.
  • Suggest one more thing to each customer before they check out, whether it’s a complementary item or a small stocking stuffer.
  • Offer “buy one get one” coupons to be used in January or February when sales are slow.
  • Offer free gift-wrapping. Many shoppers would rather wait five minutes than have to deal with it themselves.
  • Display impulse items and stocking stuffers at multiple locations throughout the store.
  • If you offer gift cards, display them prominently near your cash register. Boost sales by offering a “Buy a $50 card and get a $10 card for yourself” promotion.
  • Something moving slowly? Create a sales incentive for staff to move it.

The right window displays will bring customers in your door. Festive, well-designed in-store displays and suggestive selling will help you sell more. Find the right mix and you’ll have a happy holidays, as well.DOWNLOAD CELLMATE CATALOG
