Selecting a Kiosk Size

How to choose the correct kiosk size.

tips for selecting the right size kioskThe best kiosk size for any business is the one that fits comfortably in the rental space and has ample storage space for products when the day is through. At Palmer Retail Solutions, the most commonly ordered kiosk size is 10 ft x 10 ft. When deciding on the best size for your kiosk, you will want to consider three things:

  1. Your product
  2. The amount of storage space versus display space you desire
  3. Island versus walkthrough design

Product
The more expensive the product, the more storage space your kiosk will need. While a Pillow Pet kiosk owner may be able to leave their product overnight locked inside the display cases, a Rolex watch distributor is unlikely to be willing to take that much risk. We also find that cellular or wireless suppliers tend to need more space, due to the number of security devices required as part of the product display.

Storage vs. Display Space
Traditionally kiosks have split cabinets, where the bottom or rear portion is solid and intended for storage and the upper showcase area is made of glass or some kind of see-thru display material. This allows for somewhat equal proportions of storage to display space. Additionally, if your product is a high-priced item like jewelry, your kiosk will require a safe solution of some sort, which requires additional storage space. For this reason, we often recommend a slightly larger kiosk for jewelers, typically 10 ft x 12 ft.

walkthrough kiosk designIsland vs. Walkthrough Design
Deciding between a walkthrough or an island design for your kiosk is one of the bigger decisions in the design process. Because of the large amount of display space that a walkthrough design allows, these kiosks are often short on storage space. However, the openness of a walkthrough design allows customers to interact with the products and helps the retailers remain active while serving customers. The architecture of a walkthrough kiosk requires a larger space, often as large as 10 ft x 15 ft which means purchasing more square footage in the mall.
