Increase Store Sales With These Display Tips Display tips for clothing stores

No matter how much natural appeal your merchandise has, the right displays assure you will sell more and give customers the kind of pleasant shopping experience that keeps them coming back. In this second installment in our series on tips for clothing stores, we’ll focus on display techniques to increase sales.

You can put these lucky 13 tips for clothing stores to use creating tantalizing displays of any type of apparel and accessories. They’ll make your store well-organized and attractive in both senses of the word – visually appealing and powerfully tempting.

  1. Window displays make your store’s first impression. They don’t have to sell, they have to beckon and tempt. You have room here to do something bolder than in-store displays, so get creative with props or unusual merchandise arrangements.
  2. Shoppers get their second “first impression” when they step inside your store. Will they stay and browse, or head back out the door? That initial “panorama” overview seals the deal if they can easily see what you have to offer, but it’s the “medium shot” view that will convince them to step further inside and move through your store.
  3. You can increase visual appeal by using a mixture of tables, racks, shelves, and mannequins. But remember, not all display systems are right for every store.
  4. Grab their attention right away with a display of your newest or hottest item. If it’s folded, use a mannequin to give the sweater or shirt a human dimension. Add accessories to make it even more inviting.
  5. Group similar items together, or group outfit components together.
  6. Displays that look full are more inviting, but don’t cram in too much merchandise or the effect will be messy and off-putting instead.
  7. Since it can be harder to see merchandise hanging on racks, create an end cap or an out-facing display that visibly identifies the garments.
  8. Use shorter fixtures near the front and taller ones in the back, so shoppers can see at a glance what you have to offer.
  9. Displays can be higher against walls, so this is a good place to put long coats, dresses, or bulky items. Use wall-mounted shelving to show off front-facing merchandise.
  10. End caps have special drawing power, so make the most of that by positioning your best looking or more expensive apparel here. Show an entire outfit, including accessories, to maximize the end cap’s suggestive selling ability.
  11. Decorate thematically, and change your theme often enough to keep things fresh. Tips for clothing stores often suggest six themes a year, perhaps centered on the seasons or specific holidays. Choose themes and decorative details that match your store’s ambiance and clientele.
  12. Add visual interest with interactive displays, back-lit posters that depict people wearing your apparel, etc.
  13. Don’t forget that little details matter – like waxed hangar rods that slide smoothly, easy-to-find sizing signage, and tidy, clean floors.
