Preparing Your Mall Kiosk for Seasonal Sales

Preparing your mall kiosk for seasonal sales

‘Tis the season for holiday sales. Is your mall kiosk prepared to make this a banner season? Traditional retailers have to create fabulous window displays to make a standout impression on shoppers. Your kiosk, however, is a 360-degree “window.” Every detail has to present a showstopping visual, from every direction, to optimize seasonal sales. No pressure there!

These tips will help you design a holiday-ready kiosk that entices mall patrons to stop, browse, and buy.

  • This season, it’s all about volume. You won’t have time to reorder stock, so make sure you have plenty of merchandise on-hand to get you through the holiday sales period.
  • Decorate, using seasonal colors and themes. One easy way to change the look of your kiosk’s fixtures is with temporary backboards or countertops in colors that highlight particular products. Switch them around to create instantly-new displays.
  • Showcase merchandise shoppers won’t find at other kiosks or the mall’s other stores, to make your kiosk a must-visit destination. Is your kiosk strictly seasonal? That requires a special approach to merchandise selection and marketing.
  • Grouping related items together is always a good suggestive selling technique, but it’s more important than ever this time of year. Shoppers are often desperate for creative gift ideas, but they’re also super-short on time. Pairing products increases the value of each sale, and featuring upgraded versions of products encourages shoppers to spend more.
  • Pre-wrap some items you know will be especially popular. Colorful wrappings add another festive touch to your visual merchandising while providing much-appreciated convenience for harried shoppers.
  • Arrange displays so products are easy to see and to reach. Encourage customers to touch, taste, or smell your merchandise, as appropriate. The more they can interact with items, the more likely they are to buy. Show them how things work.
  • Use big, bold signage that clearly identifies your kiosk from at least 40 feet away. And use simple signs that clearly identify pricing without cluttering your display. Group sale items together with a single sign, rather than using individual “sale” stickers that look messy.
  • Change your displays frequently. Shoppers are likely to return to the mall repeatedly, and you want them to revisit your kiosk, not just breeze by. Hey, I didn’t see that last time! Rotating featured items and re-positioning displays builds excitement, and that builds sales.
  • Make a deliberate effort to collect customer information, encouraging each purchaser to give you their email address so you can alert them to new products and specials year-round. If you can, make a note about what they purchased.

Now that your kiosk looks stunning – filled with must-have merchandise you’ve displayed for maximum appeal, there is one more crucial component to your preparations: people. Your salesperson has to be friendly and approachable, not aggressive. Interactive video product information or demonstrations can help attract and engage customers who might otherwise shy away.

And one more reminder . . . heavy mall foot traffic and busy, distracted salespeople make this “shrinkage season,” too. Protect yourself by taking steps to prevent shoplifting at your mall kiosk.
