Tips to Create a Successful Visual Presentation for Your Mall Kiosk

Make the most of your mall kiosk with these visual presentation tips.

Visual tips for a mall kiosk.Sleek and sophisticated. Cheerful and fun. A mall kiosk can present virtually any look – as long as it’s in keeping with mall regulations, of course. The kiosk’s shape and size, creative use of color and appropriate signage all combine to attract attention from shoppers. Invitingly displayed merchandise draws people closer, and interactive components can keep customers engaged longer.

Over-the-top razzle dazzle might make people glance at a mall kiosk, but they won’t give a second look or stop to examine the products without good reason. The most successful kiosk design provides a flawless background that shows off and enhances merchandise but never competes with it.

Instant brand recognition.

A mall kiosk establishes and reinforces your company’s brand. Choosing bright colors that pop or softer hues should depend on the types of products displayed for sale, but the kiosk should always reflect company-wide marketing, too. If the company also has traditional stores, it’s essential that kiosks match their visual presentation, using the same colors and graphics.

Less is often more.

The visual appeal of a mall kiosk can be ruined if the merchandise display is overwhelming. When there’s too much to see, a person’s eye cannot focus on anything, so the natural response is to turn away. That’s not good for business. An uncluttered display and signage with minimal, easy-to-read text are far more appealing.

Sales people should follow the less-is-more approach, too. Instead of aggressively reaching out to shoppers, allow the kiosk to visually invite potential customers to approach on their own.

Visual details matter.

  • Signage should be tall enough to see from a distance.
  • Create “aisles” that enable customers to enter the kiosk, rather than shopping only around the perimeter.
  • Illuminate signage, graphics or the support structure, or use illuminated display cases.
  • Use small spotlights can draw special attention to a single item.
  • Frequently rearrange the way merchandise is displayed as well as where it’s featured, so the kiosk appears fresh and new from every direction.
  • Highlight new merchandise, or simply rotate featured items.

Interactive components have maximum appeal.

Video or moving graphics irresistibly draw the eye, even in crowded mall walkways. Incorporating flatscreen displays into the kiosk enables customers to learn more about the merchandise by watching a short video loop. This is a great way to “display” additional products or incorporate suggestive selling techniques.

Self-service options are especially valuable for customers who aren’t ready for a personal conversation but are interested in seeing merchandise up close and finding out more about it. They also provide helpful back-up during periods when foot traffic is heavy, allowing a single sales person to “talk” to more than one customer at a time.

Just like an in-store window display, a mall kiosk has to immediately catch the eye but also hold the customer’s attention. If the visual presentation is intriguing and welcoming, shoppers will feel the merchandise is too tempting to pass by.
